In Memory of Two Amazing Ladies

Karyn Washington

Dominque Banks

Earlier this month we lost two beautiful ladies (Karyn Washington & Dominque Banks) within the Blog world & Natural hair community.  It saddens me to know how these two beautiful women were suffering inside.
Karyn Washington Founder of For Brown Girls. FBG was created to celebrate the beauty of dark skin while combatting colorism and promoting self love.
Karyn's “Dark Skin Red Lip” project,  encouraged Black women to rock whatever shade of red lipstick made women feel gorgeous, empowered through beauty. It's been reported Karyn was suffering from depression and mental illness; brought on by the lost of her mother, whom past away from cancer some time ago.  Karyn Washington died on April 8th due to apparent suicide.
As, I write this, I'm feeling all sorts of emotions. I can personally identify and sympathize with Karyn's Family and Friends. Next month marks 10 year anniversary of my cousin's death by suicide.  This topic is dear to my heart.
Karyn's Friends and Family plan to keep her blog going strong it's not just a blog it's a movement with a strong message "Love yourself; no matter what color your skin is"
RIP FBG founder Karyn Washington

Dominque Banks: youtube sensation Vlogger LHDC2011 Dominque founder of Long Hair Don't Care 2011
chronicled her natural hair journey as she began to stop chemically relaxing her hair.  Dominque was a frequent contributor to Black Girls with long hair forum as well as an avid participant with natural hair care and social communities.
Dominque encourage women who showed interest in natural hair care and growth; especially with her tailbone length hair.   Dominque suffered from Lupus. Although you wouldn't know by viewing her videos on YouTube.
Lupus is a chronic inflammatory disease that occurs when your body's immune system attacks your own tissues and organs. Inflammation caused by lupus can affect many different body systems; including your joints, skin, kidneys, blood cells, brain, heart and lungs.
Dominque had took a turn for the worst.
On April 9th Dominque Banks past away from complications of Lupus.
RIP Dominque Banks LHDC2011

We honor the lives of these two amazing young women.  Whom contribute more to our communities in such a extraordinary way.
Let's begin the conversation on Mental health disease as well as Autoimmune disease such as Lupus.

LET'S BRING AWARENESS

Sending you all Love and Healing Light
