No Phone Zone!!!
Today is National No Phone Zone Day! April 30, 2010.
Oprah Winfrey and Harpo Studios are taking a stand against distracted driving, declaring Friday, April 30, 2010 the first national “No Phone Zone Day.” On this day, a live episode of
“The Oprah Winfrey Show” will be devoted to ending distracted driving. Communities around the country are being mobilized to take action, including viewing rallies to be held in Atlanta, Boston, Detroit, Los Angeles and Washington, D.C.
GHSA's State Highway Safety Office members (SHSOs) are participating through numerous events and activities. SHSOs are partnering with a variety of groups–including law enforcement, elected officials and AAA clubs–to build momentum in the effort to reduce distracted driving. Several SHSOs are working with their departments of transportation to display "No Phone Zone" messages on electronic highway message boards. Also, many are using social media sites like Face book and Twitter to convey the message.
Highlights of other state efforts are listed below. For more information about a specific state's activities, call or email that state's media contact.
