Black History Month

Black History Month:
Is extremely important to celebrate and honor.  Why?  "Black History" is "American History", it's my history, it's our history, it's your History/ HerStory.  It's important to celebrate our history and culture and give thanks to all that pave the way for us.

Black History Month, or National African American History Month, is an annual celebration of achievements by black Americans and a time for recognizing the central role of African Americans in U.S. history. The event grew out of “Negro History Week,” the brainchild of noted historian Carter G. Woodson and other prominent African Americans. Since 1976, every U.S. president has officially designated the month of February as Black History Month.
Other countries around the world, including Canada and the United Kingdom, also devote a month to celebrating black history.

It's normal for me to want to learn more about my history and culture and share it with the world. This is how we learn from one another sharing our cultural differences.
So when you listen or read; about certain ignorant people, trying to diminish our culture for a paycheck and extra publicity; makes you wonder. How far a person will go for attention.
It started a serious conversation amongst other's, who may have felt the same way or who strongly disagree.
We're not all going to agree with each other.
Let's all acknowledge our differences in opinion. With that being said; let's learn to agree to disagree peacefully.
Yes we're all Americans as "Whoopi Goldberg" stated "We all aren't treated the same; either"

{How do you want to get rid of a channel like (BET) One you had to audition for; to get a recurring role and a pay check} What?
"Girl Bye! She done lost her damn mind"
"If you ask me; "the Shade" was thrown
by her first; with her off the wall comment"

The Oscar's 2016

Greetings Happy New Year "2016"
Today's topic is all about the Oscar's.
When you hear  "Academy Awards"  "Fashion" immediately comes to most of our minds and yes the performances.
Honey! Let's just say, "I won't be watching this year"   Due to lack of diversity.
No one of color was nominated "twitter" was on fire
(Hash tag #) "Oscar so white" is trending.
I'm not shocked by this at all.
Look what happen last year. "Selma" was widely overlooked as a film and female Director "Ava DuVernay" was giving some accolades not the credit she deserved.
"David Oyelowo" wasn't even nominated.
Talk about an upset.
You could see pure disappointment in everyone's face especially "Oprah Winfrey".
I believe she may of voiced her opinion.
"Don't quote me" on that!
This year Idris Elba, Michael B Jordan, or
Will Smith not nominated.
"I understand you can't nominate everyone"
(Seriously) no one of color nominated for the second year in a row.
A few of Hollywood's elite have gone as far as to boycott the show and posting opinions on social media.  Jada Pinkett Smith posted a video on Facebook boycotting the Academy Awards (deep) must see video.
Actress Janet Hubert posted a response video to Jada and Will Smith.
Janet Hubert aka The original "Aun Viv"  from the "The fresh prince of Bel air"
Hunnie! The tea was real Hot!
Some may think Janet is a bit bitter.
Janet was let go from the hit 90's show.
In my opinion she's not bitter.
Janet makes some valid points. However it's time for both parties to have a real conversation. It's been over two decades of bad blood between Will and Janet. "My opinion" Will Smith was young and immature aka "Devo" after all it was his show he was the "Star"  Janet Hubert was a well respected established theater actress (Actor), whom may of come across as a Diva.  Both parties must own their truth.
I'm Sending positive vibes of Love and Healing Light to All parties.  For the record:
"I was devastated when the network switched "Aun Viv" like we wouldn't notice"
Serious side 👀
In my opinion someone tried to blacklist the original "Aun Viv" let's get real! Real Talk!
No shade towards "Daphne Maxwell Reid" who played second "Aun Viv" she was hired to replace Janet.  "Welcome to Hollywood's bureaucracy." (Pollytricks)
For the record I won't be watching.
Wish all attaining well and best of luck and I hope "Leonardo DiCaprio" finally wins he's always nominated but never wins "He's the
("Susan Lucci" ) of the Oscar's...

Hair Care Regimen

Let's talk hair regimen.
What's your summer regimen?
I've been somewhat using the "The LOC Method" (L)eave in Conditioner, (O)il and styling (C)ream
This will seal in the moisture and minimize frizz.  Depending on what "protective style" I'm rocking braids, twist or wash and go.
My current regimen typically consists of pre- poo, using coconut oil. This is when I also massage my scalp,  note: hair is parted in two, next start to detangle my ends and working my way up, getting my spray bottle with water saturate hair and apply conditioner.   Shampoo / Cowash blot dry with T-shirt to prevent frizz, next LOC Method style as usual and done...
This month I've decided to try two products by Shea Moisture JBCO Leave in Conditioner and  Anti Breakage shampoo. Currently use their Raw Shea Butter restorative conditioner and Shampoo.

Let's talk style: perm rod set since I had a open bottle of Jane Carter wrap and roll applied to damp/wet hair. Roll and let air dry or if your in a rush sit under a dry or use a blow dryer.  Remove rods carefully and finger style and or use a pick for volume.

Are Latinos in denial of their ancestry make up?

I'm sounding off this morning.
Last night I watched CNN AC360 & Don Lemon
Topic: Rachel Dolezal "what's so mind blowing" she's still making up stories.
Folks it's not about passing judgment on Rachel.
A simple apology would've shut it down.
She owes it to the community.
(Yeah, I apologize for lying. I identify as being Black. End of story.)
The story unfolds and gets deeper the fact that she made up family members to feed the lie.
Told her step brothers not to blow her cover.
Rachel told Matt Lauer "At the age of five I started drawing self portraits of myself with the brown crayon"  OK! Now when you were attending "Howard University" you filed a lawsuit accusing the University of discrimination because she was "White"  Folks are you here with me?  This whole situation gets deep.
The court dismissed her case. (The claim was thrown out)  Years later she meets and married a Black man. (No biggie) lots of people marry multi cultural/ racial etc.
At some point psychologically she began to identify with the Black Culture so far as to darkening her skin rock the weaves, braids, etc
If you listen to her she states someone wrote an article labeling her "transracial" then people assume she was biracial from biracial to a black women. Matt Lauer: even said at some point, did you not think to correct miss information.
No! Rachel let it go on. The problem is being
deceptive in her actions.  You see now she had a lot to gain by claiming black. "Affirmative action"
An advantage to move up  professionally.
You see on paper she presented herself by graduating from "Howard University"
Teaching "Africana Studies"  hey she looked good. She was so good and convincing she became President of NAACP in her Town.
At any moment she can stop tanning removed the braids and go back to her life as a white woman. This is what has many outraged.
Just own it! Lies after lies. The sad part she could have still been effective as herself without pretending.

So, last night Mr. Perez Hilton was on CNN as a commentator.
I'm sounding off on Mr.Perez Hilton  he stated he being a "White Latino"  blah, blah, blah. What! I had to tweet at him honey.
We went back and fourth. Yes we did!
Omg! @PerezHilton Really!!! #WhiteLatino "I don't think so". Latinos are people of color.
Hello! Smh #GirlBye #YourShadyAs #Palmtree
@PerezHilton Just because your skin is light. It does not make u white. #YourtoHollywood
#siponthatteaofknowledge #Besos #miamor

"Latinos are people of color" hello!
I forget a lot of so called; "Cubans" be thinking their "white."  In fact within the Latin communities  colorism still exist.
It's sad that in 2015 folks are still ignorant to race and culture. Look at what's happening in Haiti and Dominican Republic.

Here's some knowledge for my Latin peeps
In the U.S., a Latino historically is not white since Latinos by definition are a mixture of Spanish, indigenous, African and Asian blood.
With that being said: Puerto Rican culture is a mix of cultural antecedents:
Taíno indians, Spanish, African, European.
Now naturally if you are fair skin you may have more European in your ancestry.
It does not make you white. No mam, No sir you still a person of color...
  (As I drop the mic)
You can follow me on social media join the conversation.  We can learn to agree to disagree at the end of the day Black lives matter let's not get distracted from the cause. Remember to show compassion for cultural and differences within our nation...

Remembering Malcolm X

El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz
Malcolm X  (May 19, 1925 - February 21 1965)
Malcolm X was an African-American Muslim minister and a human and civil rights activist. His legacy still lives on through his daughters and through us...
Remembering Malcolm X 50 years ago today Minister Malcolm X was assassinated while giving a speech in Harlem, NY  Audubon Ballroom.
In 1992 Director Spike Lee produced and directed  Malcolm X film.
Based on Autobiography of Malcolm X by Alex Haley.
I remember schooling my father and sharing my own personal beliefs on Malcolm X . Since, I was happy to share my news as being cast as an extra.  A family friend worked in the wardrobe department for the film and 40 acres and a mule.
My dad had a views of Malcolm X that was solely based on negative information.
Once my father read my copy of autobiography on Malcolm X he had a better understanding of Malcolm X the man.
He was a person, son, brother, husband and a father.
Who was brutally killed in front of his family.  My dad finally understood the importance of  Malcolm X the man his legacy.
Society had a negative take on the Nation of Islam and Minister Malcolm X partly because no one could understand how this one man full of knowledge and wisdom would not fall for nonsense and commanded respect.
Malcolm X was an African-American Muslim minister and a human and civil rights activist. His legacy still lives on through his daughters and through us...

Federal Judge Rules Law Against Texas Hair Braiders as Unconstitutional

Today's post comes from
Black Enterprise
Had to share this with my fellow Natural hair beauties

A federal judge has ruled it unconstitutional for a set of Texas laws to prevent African hair braiding schools from teaching students how to braid hair.

Isis Brantley, an entrepreneur who runs a hair braiding school in Dallas, sued the state in 2013, citing the laws that pertained to hair braiding schools to be unreasonable. Under Texas laws, hair braiding schools must first be a fully equipped barber college before turning into a facility that teaches students how to braid hair. In the case of Brantley, she had to first convert her small business into a barber school that had at least 10 student chairs that reclined back and a sink behind ever work station before being allowed to teach hair braiding.

On Monday, U.S. District Judge Sam Sparks ruled the laws against hair braiders to be “irrational,” citing the fact that braiding salons don’t need sinks to do hair because hair washing is not a part of the braiding process. Judge Sparks also reasoned that the state cannot force entrepreneurs to do meaningless things before starting their own business and challenged the state to find a single hair braiding school that met their requirements.

“I fought for my economic liberty because I believe there is a lot of hope for young people who seek to earn an honest living,” said Brantley in a news release. “This decision means that I will now be able to teach the next generation of African hair braiders at my own school.”

New years eve

My Beloved Mom just finished cutting  her hair in this pic.

It's been awhile since my last post.
Can't believe it's New Year's Eve today.
I'm so looking forward to the New Year 2015 couldn't come at a better time.
Especially with all the tragic stuff occurring in the news.
I'm grateful for the many lessons 2014 has shown me this past year. The year was about growth, and personal loss.
With the loss came strength, stepping up and becoming a better person.
Life is too short! I've learn to forgive and move on. The best thing a person can do is forgive and move on. Forgiveness is great for the soul to start the healing process.
Let's not forget what's happening around the world planes missing, senseless killings, tragic losses due to mental illness and depression.  Before we hit that restart button to ring in the new year.
I would like to say a special prayer for all of our love ones who passed on this year.
Sending you all Love and Healing Light.
My Deepest condolences to Miko Branch and the entire Miss Jessie's family and friends.  Had the pleasure meeting both Titi and Miko Branch in Atlanta a few years ago. Two beautiful amazing sisters at the fore front of the Curly hair movement. The Branch sisters were so delightful  without hesitation they both posed for pictures. "I just knew; I was the third sister" OK! sister in my head. I remember when I first post this picture someone thought we were in fact related.  Guess we're all  connected to one another spiritually.
Titi Branch passed away earlier this month. A private memorial service was held.
You will be missed not forgotten...

Law Of Attraction

                                                                  Law Of Attraction

We attract into our life whatever we think about.
"Likes attract likes" Thoughts are things. If you are a happy upbeat person, expect to attract pleasant experiences.
If you have a negative attitude and complain about everything, then this is the experience you will attract.
Replace negative thoughts, replace with positive thoughts.  We have the ability to change any situation.
Manifestation
Universal Laws that Affect Manifestation
The Law of Intention
Intention is the starting point of every dream. It is the creative power that fulfills all of our needs, whether for money, relationships, spiritual awakening, or love.
The Law of Karma
"As you sow, so shall you reap".
This is also known as the "Law of Cause and Effect".
Whatever we put out in the Universe is what comes back to us.
If what we want is Happiness, Peace, Love, Friendship... Then we should BE Happy, Peaceful, Loving and a True Friend.
The Law of Continuity
Energy and matter do not die but can be
transformed.
The Law of Synchronicity
The principle by which we know the phenomenon of time. If different actions align within one frame of reference, they are said to synchronize.
Now that we're aware of The Universal Law  we can shift our energy.
Before we begin to manifest it's important to have gratitude.
Be grateful for what you already have,  be grateful for what is on it's way to you, and be grateful as you start to see what the  Universe has lining things up for you.
Surround yourself with positive people, positive people create positive energy, which creates positive experiences.
Let go of all things negative, detach yourself from what's holding you to move in a positive light, Let it go!

Let's begin to practice and receive positive energy by incorporating positive daily practice.

Practice Daily Meditation
Practice Yoga Daily
Exercise Daily
Read Daily Affirmations
Practice Kindness

Sometimes it takes a message from an Angel to speak directly at you or through you.
If this message resonates with you then my intention to connect and inspire you are beginning to manifest.

October 18TH

Today's October 18th, although I celebrate by birthday with many friends and family it's bittersweet. This makes the first Birthday celebration without my beloved Parents and Grandparents.
As I celebrate my birthday I'm entering a new phase, a new chapter, and a new journey in my life.  It's giving me sometime to reflect on what's important in my life.

I feel my parents spirit. I'm aware they're around me guiding and protecting me.  I woke up at 4am, probably my Dad waking me up he was the early one in our family. Posted some pics on my social media pages.  Then it suddenly hit me again my mom is no longer here in human form.
My mom would say Happy birthday exactly at 10:18am every year on my birthday without fail. This was the beginning of my inquiries to mom. How come you wait until 10:18am to say happy birthday?
I couldn't understand as a kid when midnight hits you're ready to open up your gifts and celebrate.
Had no idea what was going on until my mom dispense my birth certificate.  The unique fun fact about me my birthday is October 18 and my birth was exactly 10:18am in the morning.  It all started to make sense.

As the years went by I always looked forward to receive my special phone call at exactly 10:18 am on 10/18

Looking forward to creating new memories being in present, while cherishing the past.

Thank you for all the Birthday wishes means a lot.
I'm grateful I'm blessed I'm filled with gratitude...

Sending you All Love and Healing Light

Vintage clothing

Fall is here!
The best part of fall "in my opinion" is definitely the fashion.  Fall Fashion: all about layering, paring and adding a particular statement piece. [ Shoes, Boots, handbags and plenty of unique accessories]
One of my favorite things to do when shopping for clothes is paring  vintage pieces with a modern look.
A great option for shopping "vintage clothing" with affordable price tags are resale boutiques.  Resale shops have unique one of a kind clothing and accessories.

Yesterday, I venture out in search for a pair of booties to add to my fall collection.  So, I came across "Dechoes" Resale Boutique in Orlando FL   Voted Best of Orlando for resale and vintage items for the past 9 years.   Who knew???   Ashley and Adam who were very helpful and professional.
As you walk in your greeted with complimentary refreshments.
Associates are friendly and professional atmosphere is Zen.

{My kinda spot} If you're interested in vintage clothing [bonus name brands] for fraction of the original price then this is definitely your place.

After walking around the store, I spotted a pair of booties in my size! Yes!!!
If you're in the Orlando Florida area I highly recommend "Dechoes" resale boutique for unique one of a kind items.

October is BCA Month

October is Breast Cancer
Awareness Month

Breast cancers diagnosed in African American women are more likely to have factors associated with poor prognosis, such as higher grade, advanced stage, and negative hormone estrogen  and progesterone receptor status, than those diagnosed in white women.

A woman’s best overall preventive health strategy is to reduce her known risk factors as much as possible by avoiding weight gain and obesity (for postmenopausal breast cancer), engaging in regular physical activity, and minimizing alcohol intake.
Women should consider the increased risk of breast cancer associated with combined estrogen and progestin menopausal hormone therapy when evaluating treatment options for menopausal symptoms.

More information about breast cancer is available in the American Cancer Society publication Breast Cancer Facts & Figures, available online at  www.cancer.org.

21 Day Detox Challenge

I've decided to partake in a 21 Day Detox Challenge.  Mainly to cleanse and detoxify all aspects of my life from within. A cleanse can help you recharge your energy reboot your mind and body.
This pass July my Mother passed away and on September 15 my 95 year young Grandmother passed away.
Physically my "Elders" are no longer on this earth, spiritually their presence are guiding me every step of the way.
This Detox Challenge is truly a Divine intervention for me.  I've had to deal with many challenges embracing all of them head on "Endometriosis" just one of many.
Just when you think you're on the right course, you hit a speed bump.
The day before my mother passed away.
I was at the gym working out, had no energy at all.  Trying to pull myself up and finish my workout was extremely challenging.  My last exercise was pull - ups on an (assisted machine) it felt like; someone was holding the machine still.
At that moment "I knew my mother was on her way making her final transition".
[Just to give you a vivid picture of spiritual connection and distance.]
My mother lived in New York and I live in Florida. I felt tiresome to complete the workout.  Instead of me pushing through this difficult transition. The next day I received the news of my mother's passing.  I began to self sabotage my weight loss progress. Started eating junk food, comfort food.
So, What!!! I'm human... Right!
"Emotional eating"  carbs were my down fall, especially because I'm a vegetarian. [On the other hand, good carbs work well when following a workout & meal plan].

"There's no excuse for me to stop working out"  [We all mourn differently].
"Was I  having an ambiguous state of mind" ???

The lost of a parent is an emotional feeling period. When you lose both parents the emotions run deeper.
In 2009 my father passed away.
So the recent lost of my Mother and Grandmother just sparked and overwhelming flood of emotions to surface.  So, I began to pray and started reading spiritual materials.  Realizing,  what would my Grandmother  say or do in this similar situation.  At 95 years young Nana lived an amazing life, traveling all over the world. Nana had a philanthropic heart.
Nana wouldn't want me to demolish my progress.  In fact the last time I was in town, Nana said; I see you're losing weight dear.  Hearing Nana' voice echoing those words was a clear sign for me to move forward.
We all go through different challenges in life.   Divine intervention shows up aka Miracles. This is where the opportunities come knocking at your door.  Pushing through the process and not giving up on yourself. So that speed bump in front of be is now behind me. I ran over that sucker with my 4wd.  (Smiling)

21 Day Detox Challenge
Began on Monday September 22
Today marks Day 5 feeling energized mid section is decreasing.
I'm opening up to the process.
Staying the course making adjustments and making time for myself.
Incorporating more raw foods.
Saying so long to the gluten free wraps :)
In my mind because the wraps are dairy free, wheat free I was still eating them.
Sorry, have to let you go...

"Releasing the sabotaging ego"
The "Ego" will self sabotage your process. The "Ego" would've continue to let me think it was OK to stop exercising and keep consuming comfort foods.

The lesson is pushing through even if you're having a challenging day, week, month.
If you fall get up and start again.

I'm Grateful embracing and allowing awareness and balance in, after all, it's
Libra Season, Balance is key!

Depression

In the wake of Actor/ Comedian Robin Williams suicide it opens up room for conversation on mental illness and depression. Sometimes the people close to a individual may not know how much that person is suffering.
Many of Robin Williams friends were shocked hearing his death was caused by suicide.  You want to go back in time, to see if there was something you could've done to prevent this. Remember, Mr.Willams was a Actor, he knew how to mask his pain and perform.  We only can speculate at this point, we'll never know what was really troubling Williams.

Chilling footage has emerged of Robin Williams warning people suffering mental health issues against suicide.

"suicide as a permanent solution to temporary problems"

Depression: severe despondency and dejection, typically felt over a period of time and accompanied by feelings of hopelessness and inadequacy.

Major depression is also known as clinical depression, major depressive illness, major affective disorder and unipolar mood disorder. It involves some combination of the following symptoms: depressed mood (sadness), poor concentration, insomnia, fatigue, appetite disturbances, excessive guilt and thoughts of suicide. Left untreated, depression can lead to serious impairment in daily functioning and even suicide, which is the 10th leading cause of death in the U.S. Researchers believe that more than one-half of people who die by suicide are experiencing depression. Depression is a leading cause of disability worldwide and represents a global public health challenge.

Mental illness : refers to a wide range of mental health conditions — disorders that affect your mood, thinking and behavior. Examples of mental illness include depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, eating disorders and addictive behaviors.

You aren’t alone. No matter who you are or what problems you are struggling with, hurting yourself isn't the answer. We want to help you find hope.

What Are The Warning Signs For Suicide?

The following signs may mean someone is at risk for suicide. The risk of suicide is greater if a behavior is new or has increased and if it seems related to a painful event, loss, or change. If you or someone you know exhibits any of these signs, seek help as soon as possible by calling the

Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255).

Talking about wanting to die or to kill oneself.

Confessions of a Menopausal Diva

Hair Woos or Menopausal moment?
My attempt from taking "Clippers" and shaving off my hair, failed. "Epic Fail"
I even had my son participate in my "attempt" in shaving off my hair.

My hair is extremely curly aka "kinky curly" the longer it gets the more it tangles, needless to say; my mane is unruly and breakage from prior damage. Besides rocking Locs, braids, twist, or any protective style. In stead of dealing with this tangle mess. I feel like shaving off my unruly mane.
That's when I started to notice changes within me.
No one talks about changes we go through as women "hormonal changes" Especially, someone like myself; who's had to deal with having endometriosis.
Unfortunately, many women who suffer from endometriosis are hit with early menopause due to hormonal changes from certain medications or having a hysterectomy.  After speaking with a few of my endosisters.  I started to do some research of my own Fatigue, check, Weight gain, check, Hot flashes, check, check, Low libido, and Hair loss.
I thought to myself; no no no I'm to young to go through menopause.
"Ain't nobody got time for that"
That's when the light came on.
My (Aha moment)
It wasn't just about my unruly dry dull mane.
I'm starting to go through some changes.

Instead of being in denial. I'm beginning to except and embrace myself.
This is a new chapter in my life and I'm sharing my journey with you...

Sending you All Love and Healing Light
